So, as some of you might have noticed, I have been playing a new game. H1Z1, a MMORPG Zombie based survival game. It is mostly everything I’ve ever wanted from an online zombie game experience. You need to eat, drink, rest, and arm yourself to survive, you can build shelter, you can group up with others, or you can kill others. If you die, you respawn without your previous items, which are dropped by by your dead body, and must find your way back to your base, if you have one, and crew. Luckily, the zombies aren’t too hard to kill, so most of the time if I die it’s because of other human players.
The map is HUGE, has small cities and downs, farm land, forest land, etc. It is a huge sandbox map with the ability to go into most of the buildings. It’s hard to memorize everything on so huge of a map, especially since you have to find maps and build a compass, so you’re mostly looking for the sun/moon to find your way, but I’m getting the hang of it. The respawn, in my opinion, is a bit irritating…. But whatever, the rest of the game is reasonably good.
You find loot(items, food, water, building materials, weapons, ammo, etc) and can craft with that loot and build things. Sometimes loot can be a bit hard to find, especially if you are on a populated server, but that sort of makes it more interesting. And, if you are really bad on your luck with loot you can survive without it. You can build makeshift bows and hatchets out of cloth(just shred your pants or shirt) and sticks, and you can get hydration and food from berries which can pretty much be found everywhere. You can build makeshift weapons, shelters, defensive armaments, craft food recipes, med kits, etc.
There is no level up system, so no one can beef up their character to the point of reigning supreme over everyone else, or have access to better items. You are basically your gaming skills and whatever items you can find. Some players are more hostile than others… I usually use their game-speak system to say “friendly friendly, don’t bother me and I won’t bother you” and I’d say about $75 of the time that works, and people just want to go do their own thing. That being said I have been killed by people even after stating I’m a friendly, and even been hunted down and trapped in my own base by two crazy people o.o who were taunting me for a long while to come out. So it’s totally up to you if you want to be a good guy or bad guy.
It’s an alpha based game that runs on servers. So they are dealing with some people who hack and stuff, but they’re pretty quick about banning those people. They also do do server refreshes whenever the devs feel the server is getting a bit too bogged down either by players and their bases, or potential glitches and stuff. So you might work for a few days to a few weeks on a kick ass base with your friends, only to have the server refreshed and you have to start over, but that hasn’t happened to me yet so I’m not sure if I would be disappointed. Probably a little bit, but one can’t get too comfortable in a post-apocalyptic world so why not start new?
Anyway, I thought I’d post this to see if any of you guys might be interested in picking it up and playing with myself, Ballistek, G.K(one of my real life friends) and G.K’s brother. Numbers is definitely a positive in this game. If you don’t care for gore this might not be your game. I mean, it’s not horribly graphic in my opinion, limbs don’t go flying and heads don’t come off, but there is blood. It’s $20, I believe, on steam. And if anyone might be interested I might make a sub-level on this forum for that, start branching PB out a bit, maybe.
Anyway, let me know.
