This is just going to cover my opinion of the pre-release game and the first couple of patches.
Over all, I think the game is beautiful, and the dinosaurs look great. I love the idea of a drop system, and the new maps are really really cool. I think they are stepping in the right direction with all the changes they are implementing, have implemented, and want to implement. There are a few things that are a bit bothersome though.
1.) Infrequency of the drops...
Sometimes our server does drops, a lot of the time it doesn't. There seem to be some servers that get quite a few drops, and others that do not. And out of the drops, the possibility of getting a drop is really low over all. I've gotten two drops, I believe. One is a skin I had from the previous game, and the other was a digital cammo net gun. other than that I haven't gotten a crate, or any other skin. It's sort of frustrating. I wish that everyone in game got a drop, but the likelihood of getting a rare one was low. I mean, I'd rather have a bunch of common skins piled up then never get any drops at all. It at least would give me hope that I would get a rare or uncommon skin.
2.) The servers are still pretty buggy, even after the past couple of patches. I get booted quite frequently from servers, and it's frustrating. Especially because I think it's bugging out our server a bit too.
3.) The unbalanced state of the teams is ridiculous. I've seen dino teams that are way bigger than the human teams, and half of them are tyrants. There really needs to be an equal balance of players on both teams, an autobalance function, and the ability to install caps on the tyrant classes. Yes, the tyrants are easier to kill, thank god, but when there's 5+ of them it gets pretty ridiculous. I also don't like the ability to switch teams at the end of every round. I like being loyal to a specific team through out the matches. It also makes it very difficult to ever play as a dino, people people always rush to get on the dino team.
Those are my main issues with the game... But I'd like to do some class breakdowns to say what I think of the various human and dino classes.
Ptera/Tupa: I've only played as the Tupa once and unless there is a bridge to knock people off of it's a relatively useless class in my opinion. That's all I have to say about the Tupa. As for Ptera, I love the way the flying handles, and I love the speed and agility of the class, but I think they are very OP because they don't really slow down when they pick people up. It's almost impossible to save your friend from these flying bolts of lightening and it makes Pteras a real nuisance. They're also really hard to shoot at, in my experience, when they're flying so quickly. BUT when I play the ptera I have a lot of fun, basically trolling humans. XD. Also, fun glitch for you guys, not sure if they fixed it in the latest patch, but if you crouch when a ptera grabs you the grab will fail. You'll be stuck in a sort of "grabbed" animation on the ground until the ptera drops the fake you, but it prevents you from getting killed.
Nova/Ovi: At first I really really hated the new versions of both of these classes. They were my favorite class in PC, and I think their new mechanics are so radically different that they're quite the turn off for veteran nova/ovi players. You practically have to have a masters degree to figure out the pounce mechanic, the over all speed of the raptor is less than what I remember because the humans are so fast, and the roar slash ability is slower than it was before. I died so many times when I first started playing this class. That being said, when I actually got into our Dedicated Server with Balistek and practiced the pounce on a moving target without him shooting at me I got used to it really quickly. I can now pounce and roar slash quite easily, and have done really well now that I have practiced with it. I think it was just a matter of understanding the new agility of the raptor, because it does maneuver a lot better in my opinion, and the new mechanics. But I do think the time it takes to get to a full sprint is too slow. It's almost impossible to run away from humans now if you are low on health. As for the ovi, the roar ability is useless to me. It's too hard to see the humans you're trying to "track" and I don't like that they have less health.
Dilo/Cryo: I'm going to start off by saying that I rarely played this class in PC, and have only toyed with it in PCE so I don't have a lot of opinions on this class. I think their new spit mechanic is interesting, and better than the old one, even though it drives me nuts when it actually happens to me as a person, haha. I never really got close enough to a person to bite them so I'm not sure about that stuff. So over all, this class doesn't really bother me or please me because I don't really play it.
Carno: This is another class I've rarely played, but I have a lot of opinions on it as they've always sort of pissed me off. In PC they were just an annoyance that could be dealt with, but now they are super fast biting machines that I almost always fail at killing before getting bitten in half or launched across the map. They are OP, along with the ptera, due to their speed and need to be seriously nerfed.
Rex/Spino: Over all, I'm quite pleased with the changes on the tyrants. I like that they are smaller, and I like that they are actually kill-able. I find that they are relatively easy to control, though the speed of the humans makes it difficult to deal with those circling you. It's almost best to be a rex, and never a spino, to deal with those who just run behind your butt and shoot at you. There are some things I would change though. As stated before, the ability to spawn as many tyrants as you want is a little over kill. There should be a choice to put a cap on tyrants for each server. Yes, they are easier to kill, but not in packs of 5 or more. I also don't like their ability to get into certain areas that they couldn't get into before, most importantly the sandbags on docks. The humans need some safe-haven from these brutes, haha. Don't make it easier for the tyrants.
Pathfinder: This used to be my favorite human class, now it's not so great. The shot gun can still pack a good punch, but it's a bit more difficult for me to actually hit the dinos now. And the 2 flare limit is a bit of a drag too. I'm pretty sure you had at least three or four in PC. And as for the secondary hand gun weapon, I never use it. That being said, I like the pathfinder's new look.
Pyro: I thought that this was my new favorite class until I realized that the flare gun and Molotov cocktails didn't really do any decent damage unless you kill yourself with them. The chain saw and flare gun are good, but the secondary and throw-able weapons aren't that impressive to me. I think it's neat that when a ptera drops you you explode, I think that's a very clever game mechanic, but other than that I'm not as impressed as I wanted to be with this class.
Commando: This class is extremely OP. It's nice because before I sort of found him useless, but now it's a bit much. I've played as a tyrant class in a few games and have been insta-killed from full health with the grenade launcher the commando has. This is a little bit much, in my opinion. I like that he's effective against the tyrant class, as it's sort of hard to be effective against them even though they've been nerfed, but I do not think they should have the ability to insta kill the tyrants. I do like how he looks, though, and that his throw-able is ammo. That's clever.
Scientist: I've never been much of a sniper, so I don't play this class too often, and didn't play it often in PC either. But I like the new 3D scope, because I like being able to see what's going on around me, as well as in my scoped view. I also think the ability to drop down health is a neat idea. I don't like what the scientist looks like without her hat, though. Something odd goes on there. And I don't use the tranq gun too often. Over all, similar to Dili/Cryo, I don't have much to say about this class.
Trapper: This has become my new favorite human class for one specific reasons, the mines. Man, if you have a group of trappers clustered around an ammo box you can really spam the ground around your team with mines. Then when the dinos come a huntin' they get blown up, or damage enough that they are easier to take out. I know it's a bit cheap, and easy to abuse, but I really do like the mine addition. I also find the net gun a bit easier to use, even if the reload is slow and not automatic(which does drive me nuts...), and though the dueled pistols run out of ammo quickly I like how easy they are to use.
Over all, I don't feel as jaded as other people do. I was a bit disappointed at first, but I got the game for free because I won a free-code, and I understand that this is an early release game that needs a lot of work. It's still a lot of fun to me, and beautiful enough to make up for some of it's crappiness.
